Court of Honor

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

Troop 60 held a Court of Honor on Sunday, February 11th. An estimated total of 34 scouts, parents and members of the community attended.

The Court of Honor started with a wonderful meal of sloppy joes, potato salad, chips and cake. During the meal, a promotional video was shown about the upcoming summer camp trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains.

After the video, Matt Howell, gave a quick presentation about “Friend’s of Scouting”. Troop 60 raised over $700 for Friend’s of Scouting that afternoon and will receive a reward from the organization for obtaining the goal.

Awards, merit badges and rank advancements were administered to the scouts following the FOS presentation.

The Court of Honor was closed by Austin Howell with Boy Scout Vespers. A good time was had by all.

Winter Camporee 2007

Monday, February 5th, 2007

Here’s a recap of this year’s winter camporee.

The theme was “Bend in the River” ran and staffed by O.A. (Order of the Arrow) All the activities were Indian related. Troop 60 had eight boys brave the weather which was cold and windy, three adult leaders and an overnight visit from Lowell Williams.

Awards received were 1st place in Fire building and 2nd places in tomahak and the dutch oven competition.

The boys spent alot of their free time on the hill with snow boards and building a snow fort at camp. There was one point in time when the fort came under attack from two unnamed leaders and a lone scout helper. The battle went on for awhile and everyone was colder than they were before it started but a fun time was had by all.

Other than that, what can you say about a group of folks leaving the comfort of their warm, dry homes to go out into the wilderness and sleep on the cold ground. A few names come to mind but I’ll just stop right here and say I can’t wait for next year!
